Jesse Sahlani’s modern bungalow project started with one word in mind; sprawling. Jesse employed a modern design style and used the proportions of this lot to his advantage to create a low and wide, spacious bungalow that will serve as a forever home for a family who is entering the second phase of their working lives. The exterior includes a combination of dry stacked natural stone, sourced from a quarry in Owen Sound, board-formed concrete, composite cedar tongue and groove soffits, and aluminum panels. As always, harnessing natural light is the first consideration when our firm approaches a project to ensure that the floor plan is designed to align the average time of use of the spaces with the sun’s trajectory. The exterior also plays into this discussion about natural light as the floor-to-ceiling windows, and corner window details all serve a purpose as they have been designed in conjunction with the depth of the overhangs.
The exterior design was based around a large bonsai garden concept that will further characterize, and be characterized, by the low and wide proportions of the home. Pea gravel gardens, highly specific tree placements to create a lush and calming exterior environment, a small coy pond, intricate garden lighting, and low maintenance shrubbery selections will all support the intended effect for this exterior space. Of course, all that minimalism comes with all of the luxury amenities we are known for including an outdoor kitchen, outdoor fireplace, dining area, pizza oven, and a full exterior sound system to support a unique entertaining experience.
On the interior, four bedrooms, an accessible layout, and a modern rendition of a clerestory window at the rear offer our clients both the lifestyle and functionality they desire.
