HAMPTONS STYLE CAPTURED IN ITS MOST TRADITIONAL FORM

Principal Designer Jesse Sahlani developed the Hamptons Shingle Style compound for a waterfront lot in one of the most storied nodes of the Hamptons. The renderings of his initial sketches capture his rendition of the timeless traditional character that has become synonymous with the region in a format that reflects his timeless design signature. He drew heavily on the American Shingle Style to achieve this, using a palette that reflects the desired coastal charm while offering the amenities of a micro-resort designed for entertaining and family fun during summer getaways. Having the opportunity to design summer houses for New York businessmen is something we consider a rite of passage.

A UNIQUE COMPOSITION
RESULTS IN A UNIQUE
FINISHED PRODUCT

This body of work is defined by his use of grand scale. It features a center massing that unfolds into two single-story wings. These wings create a feeling of connection to its surroundings. However, they are set beside uniquely composed chimneys that, in typical Jesse Sahlani fashion, are a standout feature of the facade. The deliberate “H” shaped footprint is a notable component of the design as well, allowing the structure to unfold across the expansive lot. This unique configuration also maximizes frontage while comfortably limiting depth, ensuring that each primary room has a framed view of the surrounding ocean and private beach.

A MUTED MATERIAL PALETTE
THAT IS ANYTHING SHORT OF
SIMPLE

The material palette was chosen for its ability to age gracefully and ground the home in its prestigious coastal setting. It offers little contrast as a result of the cedar shakes that cover the roof and walls. By removing the contrast from the material palette, Jesse allows the home to be appreciated for its proportions. These materials also offer a subtle texture to the exterior as a whole, as it was his intention that you experience this texture without realizing it. It’s through this nuanced approach to detailing and the proportions of every element incorporated into the exterior that the house achieves a sense of permanence and timelessness, resulting in a quiet yet impressive family compound.

A FOOTPRINT DESIGNED TO
MAXIMIZE OCEAN VIEWS

The composition of this body of work is notable as a result of the way it unfolds across the landscape, making it feel as if there is more to explore throughout the grounds. Different wings are set back, drawing guests to the rear of the home so they can experience the real star of the show: ocean views and the backyard landscape design. These same wings extend to the rear to such an extent that they create a courtyard around the pool deck and outdoor amenities without obstructing the ocean views.
