We believe that travel plays an important role in supporting our artistic growth. It not only gives us a chance to rest our creative brains, but it also exposes us to a unique world of architectural design styles, proportions, and design details. We find it so enriching because many of these examples of design inspiration have been shaped by centuries of world events, zoning policies, popular design tastes, and economic conditions. As a result they reflect an unreplicable sense of style that the North American market often isn’t privy to.
Travel is an incredibly important part of our lives to the extent that the personal and professional reasons for our enjoyment of travel converge. It's where a mixture of relaxation and intense vigilance of your surroundings occurs, watching out for unique details, proportions, environments and settings, landscapes, and materials that inspire our creative process. It can feel entirely separate from work, yet it makes us want to run back to our studio to bring to life an idea spurred by a small detail we saw. It gives us the mental space to appreciate these surroundings and contemplate their significance within the body of work before us, inevitably expanding our creativity and influencing our design approach. It is for these reasons that we see experiencing different design pools from around the world as part of our job as artists, with the intention of expanding our creative range and inspiring our best work.
Travel also exposes us to a range of work by artists who came before us, museums displaying relics of the past, and historic monuments. The result is the expansion of our inspiration banks, our understanding of the evolution of different design styles, and our creativity as a result. We consider these experiences to be priceless, as you never know at what point in your life and career that they will inspire your best work. With this perspective in mind, its not hard to imagine how profoundly these experiences influence our design process.
It is for these reasons that travel continues to be the impetus behind the diverse range of design styles featured within Jesse's catalgoue of private residences. Our travels create a perpetual feeling of "bursting at the seams" creatively when we think about the design styles and details we feel an urgency to explore and develop through our own lens.
Sharing these experiences with our followers is something that we believe offers far more intimate insight into the inspiration behind the designs we develop. To that end, we have decided to start sharing some of our favourite photos through our instagram account @sensusdesign studio, capturing unique architectural details, proportions, interior spaces, gardens, materials from across the globe, and environments we fell in love with along the way. After all, if you don’t experience the highest level of design the world has to offer, how can you design at the highest level?
