OUR TRAVELS:
FACADES OF
VERONA

WHY-WE-DO-THEM

Walking the streets of Verona is a treat from an architectural and historical perspective, with even the most unassuming street offering a great example of the “historic patina” millions of tourists have fallen in love with throughout the centuries. With that in mind, I wanted to share a few of Jesse’s and my favourite shots when looking back on our time spent there, and the beauty of the surroundings during the peak of the fall season.

The pastel-coloured walls, the aged masonry details, the Juliet balconies that I have elaborated on previously, the contrasting shutters, and the clay roofs all add to the charm. The noble materials used throughout the cityscape create such an authentic character that you experience no matter where you go.

What stood out to us specifically was the mark of history that you can find wherever you go. The Roman grid planning is layered beneath medieval organic streets and topped with Renaissance facades. The Rosso di Verona limestone (or marble, depending on who you talk to) is another feature that is seen consistently throughout the cityscape.

Some of our favourite features also include the beautiful patina of the stone itself, the myriad of masonry details featured throughout, including the chimneys, buttress corner details, bay window parapet details, the bay window stone supports, the sagging slate roofline and unique dormers, and the copper drainage details.

"It is the collective garden of the
neighbouring houses to whose use it was
dedicated by the owners of the estate..."

And of course, you will find a way to cross paths with old Roman structures. Some of our favourites include the Arco dei Gavi, Arena di Verona, Porta Borsari, and Ponte Pietra, a Roman stone bridge that is a spectacle to see in person. We hope you enjoy scrolling through our collection of favourite images as much as we enjoyed taking them!
