Principal Designer Jesse Sahlani has had the opportunity to work in some of the most storied locations across North America and is revered for his multi-disciplinary design process. He prioritizes a deep understanding of the property at hand, including the topography, surrounding natural features, sun paths, wind paths, and viewpoints. By prioritizing this practice, every phase of his sketching process is impacted compositionally, resulting in a body of work that is born of its surroundings, feeling natural and well planned at once. Jesse’s detailed creative process utilizes his multidisciplinary skillset to achieve this level of master-planning, including custom home design, interior design, landscape design, and furnishings, to create unique and cohesively stylish environments no matter where you stand throughout the grounds.

Combining these disciplines allows him to explore a range of home design styles, many of which he gained a deep appreciation for through his extensive travels. More importantly, being in control of every aspect of a home’s composition allows him to curate the proportions of a structure both inside and out, the indoor-outdoor connection, as well as the environment that you experience every day. The result is a feeling of connection between every element of the residence.

No matter what design style Jesse is exploring, he approaches each with his unique flair for creating highly cohesive environments, ensuring every detail speaks to the desired feeling he is trying to evoke when guests lay eyes on it. The level of control he has in every category throughout the design process puts him in a position to understand and be responsible for the impact that his decisions have on every category of his design process. The result is well-planned residences that are experiential, modeling the pillars of timeless design, including the creation of an indoor-outdoor connection, sprawling floor plans, seclusion created through composition, natural light harnessed into each space, the use of noble materials, proportions that evoke emotion, and gardens that serve as an extension of this character. Every project that Jesse commits to is shaped by the belief that each structure we are responsible for designing should be designed to a timeless standard. It is for this reason that he scrutinizes every detail and refines aspects of his design that most would never think to question, undertaking a sweeping process that would be commonly considered a daunting task at best. He does this in hopes of each project serving as an aesthetic reference for future generations, characterizing the neighborhoods they are set in for decades.

PATH STUDY

Jesse believes that a private residence should be seen as an inhabited sculpture that is designed to harness natural light and flow within the context of its natural surroundings. It is for this reason that each project begins with a thorough site study, sun study, and wind-path study. The information these studies produce informs his process, aiding Jesse in considering various factors, including the site's characteristics, topography, natural features, and the sun's position at different times of day. It is through this process that Jesse is able to start master-planning the placement of every aspect of the home's design, including footprint composition, positions of outdoor amenities, window plans, planting plans, and, most importantly, floor plans. Every room throughout the home is impacted by this practice, as they are typically placed in line with the sun's path during their average highest time of use.

SKETCHING

MASTERPLANNING

The exciting stage of sketching and design exploration starts with Jesse Sahlani working closely with you to understand your aesthetic vision and stylistic preferences, as well as your hobbies, family structure, entertaining needs, and unique functionality requirements. As the designer of the environment you will experience every day, this information is crucial in molding and shaping your home to your needs and, even more importantly, your personality, offering Jesse a window into your lifestyle. From there, Jesse will sketch your design piece by piece, including site plans, floor plans, exterior perspective elevations, and isometric sketches, all while taking the sun's position at different times of day into consideration in order to maximize natural light. It is through this process that Jesse communicates his design vision for your home into a form that can be visually understood. After all, only he knows what the home looks like before it is complete.

MODELS & DIGITAL
SUN STUDIES

To provide you with a clearer visual representation of the proposed design, we create detailed preliminary 3D models. The n, as well as more detailed sun studies. This process offers you a glimpse into the intended proportions, layout, and desired environment Jesse is seeking to curate. Your feedback is crucial during this stage, as we actively refine the home design to bring Jesse’s initial sketch to life. This phase also allows him to critique, refine, and continue to design elements that he believes meet the standard of a timeless finished product.

FINAL 3D
ARTISTIC
RENDITIONS

The final artistic renditions of the home are designed in-house by Jesse and our team to capture the character he sought after when he started his design journey. These artistic renditions build on the preliminary design models to mimic the ideal exterior details in the ideal environment. They are designed to be immersive and provide a clear understanding of what we are trying to achieve, leaving almost nothing to the imagination. Through this process, every detail comes into question, allowing us to weigh the significance and impact of each element in the grand scheme of the overall environment we are trying to create. These high-quality visualizations also serve as a visual reference of what the final home design will look like for contractors, helping them understand the vision and providing a highly detailed visual reference that they can use to self-regulate their work.

DRAWINGS

Our firm carefully assesses the decisions made through the design process to ensure the structural composition of each home is both practical and design-forward. We see our construction drawings as a body of work meant to offer clear and concise information for quoting and execution. To that end, every package is peer-reviewed and developed to include standards that make the construction process as smooth as possible. From detailed notes to section details we create to explain the more complex elements, we work hand in hand with our engineering teams to ensure the structural design is efficient and respectful of our design vision.

DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT
& ONGOING
INVOLVEMENT

When we design a private residence we feel the responsibility of stewardship, as we know that our designs will characterize the surrounding neighborhood for decades to come. For this reason, we continue our involvement throughout the construction process to the degree required to achieve the desired design vision. We provide everything required to properly execute the design vision from simple drawing explanations and clarifications to site review meetings and additional section details with sequential construction instructions. We work with suppliers across the globe who can offer the products we include in our design plans, and we provide detailed specifications and purchasing solutions for every material we specify for your residence.
