OUR APPROACH:
THE ROLE OF
FURNISHING & DECOR
WHEN CURATING YOUR ENVIRONMENT

WHY-WE-DO-THEM

A PILLAR OF
OUR PROCESS.

Furniture design is a pillar of our multidisciplinary design process, serving as a pillar in the creation of an artistic and stylish environment. Curating the furnishings and decor in our homes gives us the opportunity to explore and utilize a diverse range of colors, textures, and forms to characterize each space perfectly. More importantly, we use it to develop an aesthetic that reflects your personality and stylistic preferences. This process requires us to take the time to deeply understand your lifestyle, as well as your functional needs, hobbies, and phase of life, molding the design plan to support and reflect everything we know about you. Our furnishing services are led by our lead curator, Melissa Ho, who works in lockstep with lead designer Jesse Sahlani to guide you in discovering your personal style, while meticulously crafting complementary focal points for the space. Today we wanted to tke a deeper dive into the reasons as to why we consider this discipline to be as important as the custom home design itself.

WHY-WE-DO-THEM

“DETAILS ARE NOT THE
DETAILS. THEY MAKE
THE DESIGN.”

WHY-WE-DO-THEM

A SEAMLESS
CONNECTION.

As part of our master planning process, curating the furnishings creates a consistent level of design intention in every detail, making each space feel perfectly curated. Each piece is attuned to the interior proportions, orientation, and scale of the room. It’s an opportunity to perfect the flow of each space including the proximity of each item to another, as well as the connection between interior and exterior spaces.

THE PASSION
BEHIND THE APPROACH

Jesse’s love for this phase of the design process comes from the simple idea that having beautiful surroundings allows us to enjoy the time we spend in that space significantly more. It requires a fragile and delicate balance of aesthetic details and master planning. The result is a synergy between custom home design, interior design, landscape design, and furnishings. This is an experience we have chased over the years within our own working environment, more specifically the inspiration this environment supports.

“THE BEST ROOMS SAY
SOMETHING ABOUT THE
PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THEM.”

WHY-WE-DO-THEM

A FINELY
BALANCED

ENVIRONMENT.

To put it simply, having beautiful surroundings makes us enjoy our time spent in that space significantly more, and if done properly, inspires creativity. This is a categorically important piece of the puzzle in understanding what fuels us to perfect every body of work we commit to designing. This visual satisfaction is at minimum something that helps us focus, and often something that helps us communicate our most visceral feelings of enjoyment, relaxation, or visual satisfaction into the work we do. Having this ability, in the end, was the single most valuable and fleeting skill that we could have developed.

WHY-WE-DO-THEM

“FORM AND FUNCTION
SHOULD BE ONE- THAT HAS
BEEN MISUNDERSTOOD.
FORM AND FUNCTION
SHOULD BE ONE, JOINED IN
A SPIRITUAL UNION”

WHY-WE-DO-THEM

HIGH STAKES
CURATION.

In the end, every piece of furniture can either support or absolutely ruin the creation that we work so hard to develop. Whether it’s the proportions, combination of finishes, planning and symmetry used to create an indoor–outdoor connection, or a landscape design to frame the house, there are hundreds of little details that can capture a “moment” where you experience joy in your surroundings. Furniture is no exception, which is why we put the same degree of intention and refinement into this integral part of our design process.
