Jesse designed the Tudor Revival Manor with the intention of capturing the historic character of this design style while interpreting it through his well-known, updated, yet classically restrained lens. Referencing historical examples dating back to the late 1400s, each exterior feature is a refined or reimagined characteristic that made these homes so aesthetically desirable. However, this home is far more than just a timeless piece of architecture; it’s designed as a lifestyle-focused custom home that seamlessly connects the exterior design, interior design, landscape design, and furnishings to create a cohesive environment. To that end, we wanted to outline some of our favourite details, as well as design features Jesse created for this unique private residence.
It’s important to pay attention to the proportions of the structure’s massing. While these proportions break down into a range of complex peaks and dormers that are set at various heights, Jesse captured the estately character of this design style through their collective visual impact. It is through both these high level compositional elements such as the massing, along with even the smallest refining masonry details that Jesse is able to offer a nod to historic renditions of this stunning design style. More importantly, they support the design character that Jesse wanted to carry through every space throughout the grounds.
The home features impressively wide proportions, spanning over 100 feet in width and across 7,500 square feet of intentionally finished interior space above grade. As a result, Jesse was able to incorporate a range of roof elevations, window features, and spectacular masonry chimney heights. The result is a home that feels sprawling and rambling, drawing the eye up and down to each proportion, requiring a double take.
What we love most about this home is that no matter what part of the grounds you are in, you are surrounded by unique architectural design details, luxurious outdoor amenities, or lush greenery that is intentionally illuminated. The result is an architecturally interesting body of work that is derived not from fancy materials but from proportionality and character, an effect that is far more allusive than you might think. To draw your eye to this, Jesse designed a highly detailed masonry design plan that focuses on minimalism within the context of the desired design style, allowing the proportions to remain as the main event.
When Jesse designs a custom home, the rear facade is never boring. Instead, it is made to be just as architecturally significant as the front facade, serving to characterize the backyard entertaining areas and amenities, surrounding you with a sense of design intention.
To achieve a finished product of this caliber, Jesse works through both the exterior proportions, interior proportions, interior layout, and the landscape design processes concurrently. He balances all of this alongside the findings of his initial sun study throughout the process of sketching his design vision. This not only speaks to the benefits of his multi-disciplinary approach, but it also speaks to the cohesive environment he sought to create.
The end result is a home that offers the same amenities as your average boutique resort, designed in a format that creates a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. A great example of this approach in application is the covered logia space seen to your right, creating a comfortable space for relaxation during the summer months that is perfect for entertaining or spending time with family.
