The New England Colonial home captures Jesse’s most honest artistic inclinations of traditional designs, showcasing the classic New England shingle style that is gently blended with a warm and soft exterior characteristic if its colonial style inspiration. The word he associated with this design through his creative sketching process was “charming”. And while the proportions he achieved speak to this, so do even the most minor exterior details and the blend of natural materials used in the exterior facades

Using the corner lot orientation to his advantage, Jesse designed a wrap around covered porch in true colonial design fashion.This inclusion also created an opportunity for a second floor deck that similarly spans throughout the second floor bedrooms. This detail can be seen from three elevations of the home and characterizes them all with the same consistent traditional charm no matter what angle you approach the structure from.

The carriage house garage doors are designed to compliment the range of other exterior details. Incorporating a three car garage into any building facade is a difficult one when you are trying to maintain a timeless and uninterrupted exterior facade. In this case, Jesse chose to create three separate doors to maintain traditional proportions, along with unique lantern style sconce lights positioned throughout the building facade for consistency.

The “front” elevation exudes a regal sense of inviting warmth and, in Jesse’s words, “was designed to make you want to have an iced tea and stay cool in the heat of the summer.” A front courtyard surrounds the front porch mimicking the “L” shaped living room within, creating a connection between the landscaping and the structure, and foreshadowing the seamless flow between the exterior and interior that will characterize the rear elevation.

The rear facade plays a similar role as the front, designed it to support a fluid indoor-outdoor connection. Here, Jesse incorporated far larger windows than those seen on any other elevation, a signature of his where the rear facade should always be designed to characterize the outdoor entertainment areas while taking the opportunity to harness the natural sunlight to the interior.

One of our favourite features on the rear facade is the continuity between the single-storey and two-storey proportions, a second-floor walkout terrace that is accessible through the principal bedroom, as well as a covered outdoor dining space, a lounge, and a pool.

Every outdoor amenity on the exterior of this uniquely traditional custom home is designed to both prioritize natural light, and to be surrounded by a sense of lush greenery. To achieve this effect Jesse designed a series of retaining walls that surround garden beds filled with layers of hydrangeas, lavender, boxwoods, and beech trees. Garden lighting and the highly specific placement of these trees is a keen part of Jesse’s vision for these outdoor spaces, as he believes that these gardens also bring a sense of lushness into the interior spaces. These details, though seemingly minor in nature, equally contribute to the creation of an indoor-outdoor connection.
