Traditional French Chateau

The preliminary conceptual rendering of the latest traditional French Chateau design by Jesse Sahlani is being featured on our website because of Jesse’s excitement around the design. Inspired by the Louvre and the stunning architecture of the surrounding auxiliary buildings, this 4,200 square foot home offers luxury in a size-friendly format. While there is much, much more development to happen before this design is construction ready for our clients, we believe this is a great example of what can be achieved with a 50 foot lot.

When approaching the house design for this uniquely timeless, and historically accurate custom home, Jesse drew on inspiration from the complex and stunningly intricate masonry details from the past. Some of these details include large porch stone railings, rounded corners, complex cornice details, and fluted accents over the front door. His material of choice could of course be nothing other than limestone, specifically selected for its dark taupe finish and colour variation. This stone is sourced from a quarry in Spain with the hope that as the structure gets older, the patina of this material will change, showing its true depth and richness.

The roofing material is a zinc panel material that mimics that of the vast mansard roofs seen throughout Paris. Circular dormer windows built into the roofline offer natural light to the third floor of this stunning estate while serving to elegantly support the authenticity of this timeless design. We can’t wait to release more of this unique custom home’s interior and landscape design plans in the coming weeks!

Jesse designed the rear facade of the home with a similar sentiment for historic accuracy in mind. However, he included far larger window openings that support an indoor/outdoor connection to a simply yet beautifully designed backyard entertainment space. A limestone clad loggia supports a covered and heated dining and lounge area, as well as a second floor terrace accessible through the principle ensuite. The swimming and tanning areas are similarly clad in limestone block, creating a continuously luxurious environment throughout the rear landscaping plan. Typically Jesse includes a long and diverse list of selections in his planting plan, but in this case he kept it very simple, letting the exterior of the home’s masonry details do the work. To compliment this Jesse included hydrangeas lining the elegant yet simple boxwood features.
